WHY DO YOU NEED SMALL PISTOL PRIMERS

Federal Small Pistol Primers in stock
I have been using fspm primers for over 20 years in 38 special for my 2.7-3.0g target loads of red dot, bullseye, wst, etc. This is because I was also loading 357 mag loads and did not want to bother with 2 different primers. My Python did not always set off other brands of primers when shooting double action, the reason I went to Federal primers in the first place. Back in the early days of the internet. Some people say to drop back a couple or a few tenths of a grain of powder with a mag primer. I wouldn’t know, I never use regular primers for .38.
The Federal Small Pistol Primer are my preferred primers for competition loads in 9mm and 38 mid.
Chronographing them against FSP primers consistently gives me smaller ES and lower SD.
Interestingly, the max velocity is either the same or a bit lower.

Now, if I could just find more FSPM…
been able to find many Fsp standard primers, but have located Fspm primers.
Is there any reason to avoid using the magnum primers with reduced .38 Special or reduced .357 loads?
I had a small herd of these in the closet back from the last component shortage. So I decided to start loading them in my .40 minor loads. The targets and steel plates can not tell any difference. I always use Federal Small Pistol Primer in my .38 special loads.
